Achieved primarily through the use of relatively unknown timbers and our lateral view of drum design, these sounds made the industry sit up and take notice. A sheer joy in the studio, block shells differ sonically from ply shells in that a block shell has a very quick decay and a thicker tone; therefore sound engineers no longer need to use noise gates or heavy reverb plates to enhance natural tones.
