Zildjian Cymbals - Zildjian K Custom Hybrid Cymbals
Officially introduced in 2006, Zildjian has teamed up with one of Japan's top drummers, Akira Jimbo to design one of the best-sounding, most-versatile lines of cymbals to come on the market. Available in Ride, Crash, HiHat, China and Splash models, the K Custom Hybrid Series combines elements of existing K Custom cymbals to provide drummers with several different sound capabilities.
The new K Custom Hybrid models combine the unlathed, brilliant finish of the K Custom Ride on the inner half with the traditionally finished K Zildjian lathing on the outer half of the cymbal. This results in the possibility of two different sound dynamics depending where the cymbal is played. Additionally, the unlathed section helps to control the wash and sustain, rendering them ideal for recording and live situations. The 20-inch Ride combines the defined stick attack and strong bell sound of the K Custom Ride with the crash-ability and increased spread of a thinner, lathed cymbal. The 17 and 19-inch Crashes, 9 and 11-inch Splashes and 19-inch China feature a thinner design, but project like heavier cymbals due to the unlathed bell. The odd sizes are Akira's favorite. Another unique feature of the K Custom Hybrid Series are found in the 13 1/4-inch HiHats. New """"Hybrid Hammering"""" results in reverse Mastersound grooves by hammering into the bottom of the cymbal from the opposite side. This results in increased surface area contact between the top and bottom cymbals, and a warmer chick and wash than normal Mastersound hammering. Akira specified the 13 1/4-inch size to combine the power of a 14-inch size and the control of a 13-inch. Akira said, Maximum versatility is the main idea with the Hybrid series. I worked with Zildjian to design a line of cymbals where brilliance and darkness co-exist. I think the sound we came up with sets the new standard for the 21st Century.
